Aakash and I met at New York University at the kick off for a South Asian Association meeting. We would “accidentally run into each other” thanks to the help of mutual friends who made excuses to get us together.
After “accidentally” running into each other on New Years Eve, we talked on the phone and texted for hours. In February 2011, I built up the courage to ask Aakash out on our first date. After 4 years of long-distance love and a total of 8 years together, Aakash proposed in NYC, where we first met at Washington Square Park.
As we started planning, we quickly knew we wanted an intimate wedding with our family and closest friends. We wanted everyone to get to know each other and really enjoy their time. We also wanted a family-friendly environment, since many of our relatives have younger children. With that in mind, it was a no brainer – we wanted somewhere tropical and welcoming for 250+ guests traveling from the U.S. and India. Bali was the perfect place.
