Kavi and I knew each other since we were kids as my aunt was married to his uncle butwere nothing more than distant relatives. He left for London with his sister for higher studies and several years later, destiny brought us back together when we were both attending my aunt’s alms giving in Matara, Sri Lanka. We’ve been inseparable ever since. After 5 years of dating he finally popped the question right beforehe took me out on our anniversary dinner. It was private and intimate and of course I said yes!
When trying to describe this special day, I can’t seem to find a better word than “perfect,” a day I’ve pictured forever became a reality and I married the man of my dreams! Everything we did, we tried to stick to a Grecian/Tuscan theme. Hence the color palate had multiple shades of olive green. Besides the elements of green, we wanted everything else to be black and white with a touch of gold to make the setting classic and timeless. Kavi and I thought long and hard about where we wanted our big day to take place. We selected the historic Galle Face Hotel, which would complement our theme with its exquisite European inspired architecture.
It’s not always a bridal outfit is designed by the Groom’s sister. I’m pretty sure our relationship would have added extra pressure in designing my bridal saree and reception dress as she wanted them to be the best ever she has done. While others would have crumbled under this kind of pressure, she thrived in it. She’s quite possibly the best bridal designer in Colombo. She had big plans for my outfits as we started by shoppingin the streets of Mumbai, months before the big day. It was amazing to see how she came up with the design on the spot. For her to complete the design, a custom order had to be placed with the thread work she drew on a piece of paper in less than five minutes which stunned everyone in the shop. I gave her complete freedom enabling to do her magic. The saree was designed to be a traditional drape with a twist of sophistication. It was simple yet elegant. Seven bridesmaid and one flower girl outfit, all complemented my bridal seamlessly.
The material for the reception dress was also custom made from the scratch inspired by her drawings. I do not think words can describe the unique elegance and glamour in that dress. From start to end everything was stress free, as I was only needed for the fittings. Both outfits exceeded all my expectations!
We had an amazing set of vendors who truly love what they do and are great at it. MUA -Viran Jose Peter. He is not only my go to MUA but a really close friend too. He is hands down the best makeup artist in Colombo. So who else would I trust more with my makeup? He made me look effortless. HSA -Shane Perera. He is also a close friend and a very talented hair dresser with an eye for tiniest details. Photography -AMARANTE by Anu & Adrian Dharmaratne. We’ve both been long-time admirers of AMARANTE’s work, so there was no question of who would capture our big day. It could only be them! Not only do they capture all the moments most important to couples, but moments that are natural, raw and unique! Videography -The Wedding Diary by Ruwin Fernando. We chose him as there was something so romantic and rich about the way he captured all of his weddings, and that’s how we wanted to remember our wedding. After going through many sample videos, we found something unique about his work which is hard to explain. Floristry -PORU Weddings. We’ve been closely following their work for some timeand we’ve been fascinated every time! Galle Face grand ballroom is a uniquely beautiful space and they wanted to maintain the classical elegance while incorporating the most beautiful white rose floral centerpieces with lots and lots of candles to complement our theme. PORU had to make stage platform and the most beautiful backdrop from the scratch to match our theme. We knew everything was in safe hands and PORU delivered! The ambience they created was intimate, classic and timeless. The DOCTORby Lanthra Perera tore the ballroom roof off with a night of music which had everyone out of their seats the entire time. Event Planner -Eventz & Trendz. Uzi & Iyanthie were no strangers to us as we have worked together at our sister’s wedding. However, during our wedding, we really got to know about why they’re sought after by many. They are committed, talented and super friendly. Iyanthie has a keen eye for detail which was useful for us in making many decisions. Uzman kept us sane throughout the wedding planning and was behind us every step of the way during the ceremony and reception. Groom’s attire -Fouzul Hameed. A big shout outto Fouzul for personally looking into the design, material selection & fittings. Stationary -Soleil. A close family friend of ours who’s without a doubt best in the business with bundles of creativity.
Everything about our wedding day could not have been more magical. When Kavi and I saw each other just before the ceremony, it was as if we froze in time. I was so nervous about Kavi seeing me as a bride, so being able to see the happiness on his face when he saw me was something I can not put in words. First dance as husband and wife surrounded by all of our loved ones will be a moment that we will relive for the rest of our lives. Our first dance was ‘You’re Just Too Good to be True’ by Franki Valli, a timeless classic with an upbeat ending.
